BEER!

Pale Ale Beer Conditioner

Sorry if the pic seems a little “blurry”….I wasn’t drinking when I took the shot, lol. You can drink it, cook with it, but did you know you can apply it to your hair? Beer for the tresses…Yes! Beer is potent with B Vitamins and hops which are great for the hair. Besides nourishment, it provides volume and shine. I applied this Pale Ale conditioner after I shampooed my hair. This conditioner has great slip and makes my hair extremely soft upon contact! Despite having a citrus scent, it smells more like beer to me. But hey, it may be just as effective as pouring actual beer on your hair via leaning over the sink or tub. Then place a conditioning cap on the hair for a few minutes, and rinsing. After that I would probably run a good smelling conditioner through my hair. Anyway the product is good except for the fact that it has sodium benzoate in it. I was told from a scientist that it has been proven that sodium benzoate contributes to cancer, even very little of it. Of course, I was a little puzzle about that. Why? Sodium benzoate is a preservative and so are parabens. I am already trying to stay away from parabens. I am starting to feel that all laboratory synthetic preservatives contribute to cancer. Heeey, if you breathe wrong…you might get cancer. And this is what makes some people say why even try to be a naturalist. Well, it takes a little effort to get the best out of life. Personally, as I have stated before, I try not to be a fanatic when it comes to being natural. I appreciate the information I read or receive and if necessary limit my usage. Oh btw, many sodas (ex., coke) contain sodium benzoate. But I do not drink commercial sodas and haven’t for years, so I was not torn up when I heard that. My reasoning from staying away from it was high fructose corn syrup. My theory about most (not all) food and drink products are: if they advertise it on television, it’s probably not good for you.

But Anyway….back to my poisonous beer conditioner….that I purchased online.  I really like the way that it makes my hair feel and look. When I run out, I may “debate” about purchasing more; especially since I do not drink soda, I don’t see how it could hurt to apply things of that nature to my hair occasionally. I can always try regular beer. But if sodas have sodium benzoate in it, I am sure beer has to have it too. Many of the beers and even wine on the market do not even have a full ingredient list on the bottle. So, what are you drinking??? Does alcohol really cause cirrhosis of the liver…..or-is-it-Sodium-Benzoate?? This is probably one of the reasons why some folks enjoy making their own. And you can also purchase the organic varieties. Upon doing further research on the matter, I found that sodium benzoate can also cause hypertension, and ADHD. And if you combine ascorbic acid (vitamin C) with sodium benzoate and potassium benzoate (another preservative), you get benzene. Benzene is a known carcinogen. Meaning if you drink a soda and/or beer with sodium benzoate in it, you may need to look at ALL the ingredients in the other foods you are currently eating (ex., Fast food burger and fries), so that you don’t create an atomic bomb within your body! Coke may be removing this preservative from their recipe later this year. So this is like, Breaking News folks! Sodium Benzoate isn’t as safe as people once thought it was. Now you found out how bad cigarettes “really” are (though it came with a warning label) and that certain preservatives are bad etc….and then people stay away from them. And “this” is why people are living longer today! (But what took so long?) You know, I probably will not purchase any more of that conditioner because it has potassium and citrus in it.    Its’ Da BOMB!!! :-)

Cancer

As you may already know, October is the month of breast cancer awareness. I have an Aunt who is suffering from it. Her daughter, who is my first cousin, just died last night from Leukemia. My family is going through a very difficult time right now. We are going through the motions.

Cancer is very tricky, because one minute you think the person is getting better, and then the next they are in hospice. At one time it seemed my first cousin was starting to get better. The doctor said they couldn’t find it. Then she was in hospice. My Aunt who was the sister of the Aunt who has breast cancer, about died 17 years ago from pancreatic cancer. There was a moment that the doctor thought she was going to be okay, and the next she was in hospice.*

Cancer may strike people in different ways. It may strike due to genetics (which is why some children may have it), poor diet (ex., additives, chemicals, excessive fats) a lack of exercise, excessive amounts of stress, and anger. And then there are the few people who feel they did everything right when it comes to taking care of his or herself and still get it. But still, those people are the very few. Usually the people who strive to take care or his or herself, stays healthier longer. It is the premise that makes some feel like they don’t need to even try. Well, not trying could be actually sending cancer an invitation. Who wants to send cancer an invitation? People have so much (excruciating pain) with cancer, that the medicines don’t provide relief, only death does. So, now is the time to start eating right if you don’t, and to start an exercising routine before cancer. You will feel so much better, and your body will thank you.

*My first cousin was only 11 months older than me. My grandfather died when my mother was 14 years old due to prostate cancer. I’ve loss an Uncle to lung cancer 2 years ago. He was the brother of my Aunt who has breast cancer. She has another brother, of course also my Uncle, has had throat cancer. He has beat it.

Although my grandmother (my mother side) died in 09, she did
not have cancer. Out of my father’s seven siblings, neither of them dealt with
cancer or his parents.

Even though we all have cancer cells, it is likely my mother’s father may have carried more of the cells. Today, many people have become more individualistic. It is important to know your family. Knowing your family may help extend your life.

My parents have been exercising and mostly eating right for
as long as I can remember. When you know what is in your family, you may be
more incline to make changes sooner, and stick to them relentlessly.

Fast Food

Basically, I try to stay away from fast food as much as possible. Most fast food chains serve processed food. But sometimes you just have to eat out! Three of the “popular” chains I would eat from are: Chick-fil-a, Burger King, and Wendy’s. Notice…Mc Donald’s isn’t on my list. I just don’t like play-doh food. Personally, I feel Mc Donald’s is too play-dohey for me. Burger King’s breakfast is likewise. One of my favorites from Burger King is the Veggie burger. Although I believe it may contain a trival amount of MSG. A regular veggie burger has 1030mg of sodium and 410 calories! Better off eating a real burger huh? Weelll, I order mine without the mayo or the ketchup and add mustard. Doing it that way save 130mg of sodium and 100 calories. And if you don’t add mustard, conserve a little more on the sodium. You can’t beat 7g of fat, and 1g of sat. fat. I don’t have high blood pressure, so I am not as concerned about the salt. However, if you have high blood pressure…you are already aware that you really should stay away from fast food altogether. (Subway sandwiches are extremely high in sodium!) I do try to order fries without salt, only because of bloat. Too much salt in the body actually causes you to look heavier than you actually are, especially in your mid section. The salt causes your body to hold water, so what you’ll have is water bloat along with all the other greasy mess you just ate. I always drink water! I feel soda is unnecessary when eating fast food. Matter of fact, I don’t drink soda except once in a blue moon, and mostly from a health food store. Visit www.burgerking.com and look at their nutritional menu. Check it out on your smartphone before you place your order, and your body will thank you. ;)

Wendy’s is great because I can order a baked potato w/chives and a side salad without dressing. Or, a premium salad without the chicken. I will add my own salt and pepper on my potato. Sour cream and butter comes with it, but I don’t use them. But if I happen to go home with the food, I would use full fat greek yogurt instead of sour cream with the chives. For more information about Wendy’s nutritional menu go to www.wendys.com.

Now on to Chick-fil-a. Their chicken is loaded with MSG!! The fried chicken has MSG in the breading. The grilled chicken has disodium guanylate and inosinate which is also MSG, and on top of that it lists, flavor! We know what that means….more MSG. Ok…so now you see why I don’t eat chicken. yeah. I order a Large Fry without salt, along with a side salad without dressing. If I am really hungry I will order a fruit cup. It cost about the same as a combo, and I get sooo full. Sometimes I switch it around and order only a fry and fruit cup. Some people believe starch and sugar leads to diabetes. It’s more to it than that.  For more information about the MSG in Chick-fil-a food go to www.chick-fil-a.com.

Food for Thought

‘Junk Food’ Moms Have ‘Junk Food’ Babies

ScienceDaily (Mar. 24, 2011) — A new research report published online in The FASEB Journal suggests that pregnant mothers who eat high sugar and high fat diets have babies who are likely to become junk food junkies themselves. According to the report, which used rats, this happens because the high fat and high sugar diet leads to changes in the fetal brain’s reward pathway, altering food preferences.

Not only does this offer insight into the ever-increasing rate of human obesity, but it may also explain why some people easily resist fatty and sugary foods, while others seem hopelessly addicted.

“These results will help us to better help women about diet during pregnancy and breastfeeding for giving their infants the best start in life,” said Beverly Muhlhausler, Ph.D., co-author of the study from the FOODplus Research Centre in the School of Agriculture Food and Wine at the University of Adelaide in Adelaide, Australia. For more information about this discovery, go to www.sciencedaily.com.

Not only should you eat well while pregnant, but while breastfeeding as well. I personally don’t recommend the use of formula. Some women have to use formula for various reasons. What is formula? Well it is what it says it is. It’s a synthetic compound of chemicals mixed with usually cow’s milk. Many infants have a hard time digesting formula due to their sensitive stomachs. Studies have shown that the colic in a breastfeed baby isn’t as severe (if at all) as a baby who may have been formula fed. Also, before there is milk from the breast, there is colostrum, which helps protect the baby with nourishment and antibodies. Colostrum is liquid gold to newborns.

Eating disorders are on the rise. They are often caused by underlying psychological conditions, like disliking body image, and not having enough control in one’s life. Anorexia erodes the bones, and bulimia may cause heart attacks. It is important not to stress over losing weight, to the point that it consumes your every waking thought. Confide in a Mature friend and/or doctor, and take appropriate steps to receive necessary treatment. Stay away from those magazines with retouched photos…trust, I know. Love yourself, because each of us are unique special individuals. Now when it comes to binge eating without purging, try walking more. Purchase a treadmill if you think it will help. Slowly increase more exercise in your daily life, and slowly change the junk that you might normally binge to health food. Try to shop more from the perimeter of the grocery store. Slowly stock up more on healthy food from the grocery store and buy less junk food. Therefore you have no choice but to reach for something healthy when you are hungry. ;)

I have always loved the correlation of science and technology, and will find a way to inculcate both into my blog. I feel that science and technology is extremely important especially when it comes to living a healthy lifestyle!
